WEEK 7 MTC: Guess who's preaching false doctrine again? (If you guessed the world you'd be right (also if you guessed me you'd be right as well.....))

This one is long. If you just want something about socks. Please skip to the bottom at this time.

Welp. I'm hoping that one week will not entail me saying something completely untrue and hilarious.

Today is not that week...

Boom, what up, solo Elder Baird here back doing some more missionary action with y'all. (Maybe one day someone besides Roman will get my intros (today is not that day))

It's time again for a weekly synopsis. This is where I write a really long email in Hope's that someone besides my mom will read it. In doing so I make a bunch of stuff up so I sound cooler than I really am, because recognition is more important than telling the truth... Apparently...

Well I guess we should start at the beginning.

Or I could just talk about TRCs.

Actually, let's just start at the beginning.

So after getting done emailing all of you lovely and handsome people I continued my P-day as normal. Then once we got to class that evening we found out that we were doing a skype teaching in under an hour. They had forgotten to tell us and so this was kind of terrifying. This was our first one and so we had no clue what to expect.

It ended up going really well though so no worries there!

Wednesday. My first full day English Fast! Not only was it that, but it was our first non member TRC. This was going to be the first time that I had ever taught a non-member. In Chinese. OWIEHGOSGVS. (That was only about half of what I was feeling)

Needless to say it was terrifying.

We got there and the sister we were teaching, Hua Su Xin, just started talking in Chinese. And it was hard to follow her. Like real hard. I was very humbled that day. Like very very. We taught about how God is our Father and he loves all of us. To which she countered with "well if God loves me why have I never felt it?" To which I didn't respond. Well.. I did. But I don't remember what I said, and all I know is that I didn't know how to really respond in Chinese to her. It was very difficult. But we taught how to pray and asked her to do that so that she could try to start feeling his love.

I then proceeded to try to say that God is our father. 父亲 (fu qin) was the word I was going for. It means father, but respectively. What I said was 丈夫 (zhang fu). This does not mean father. This means husband....

So yes, I told her that God is our spiritual husband... whoooops. She laughed real long about it so maybe it made her happy!

After the lesson I proceeded to collapse onto the floor because I didn't breathe for 25 minutes straight. It was very difficult.

The next time we taught her (Friday) though we asked if she had prayed, she said yes but that she hadn't felt anything. And so that was hard. But then we explained about the Book of Mormon. And asked her to read that Alma 32, someone told me once that it is a good chapter *shrug*  *wink*  *nudge*

So we teach her again on Wednesday and so we will see what happens then!

On Thursday and Saturday we taught someone named Elanor (don't know her Chinese name) but we taught her about God as well and she also asked why she hasn't felt Gods love and so then we taught her about prayer. She said she would pray and we were like great! This lesson went so much better. Like so much better! I was able to understand and things went well.

When we taught her on Saturday we asked her how her prayer went and she told us that she was having really bad stomach aches and so that morning she had prayed and asked for the pain to go away and her stomach immediately started to feel better! That was a cool miracle to see in her life. But she didn't feel God's love for her in her prayer. So we also taught her about the Book of Mormon and the Restoration of the gospel. At the end of the lesson I felt prompted to ask her to say the closing prayer. So I did and she very happily said yes! So I was like cool! During her prayer I just felt the Holy Ghost like come foully into the room! Peace filled the whole room and I could feel God telling her that he loved her. So immediately after the prayer I asked her if she felt that peace and she said that she did. I then proceeded to testify that that was God's love for her.

I was on the verge of tears while saying this just because of how strong the feeling was. I'm not completely sure how she took it. But it strengthened my testimony for sure. And I'm sure it helped her.

Needless to say teaching her is going a lot better than Hua Su Xin, but I am still very excited to keep teaching her and try to have her have the same kind of experience!

So teaching is hard is basically the short version of all of that. But super rewarding.

Some other things that happened:

-Someone broke my water bottle. I had a funeral and buried it in the garbage can. It was very sad and now I don't have a water bottle. *sigh*
-the word sift is hard to say.
-on an unrelated note, I have not sworn while at the MTC
-one of our teachers left me and so now I'm depressed. She left the whole group of us, but I took it as a personal offense. Yes she is on this email. Will she read this? Who knows.
-The gospel is basically baby food. It's a real good analogy. But I don't want to explain that.
-Chinese is hard. Whoever wrote Chinese should be fired. Who thinks that it is a good idea to make the word excited (qi dai) and the word for umbilical cord (qi dai) the same thing with only one of the tones being different. Like seriously.
-My companion dropped burrito all over everything. So yeh. Now our room smells like burrito which just makes me hungry.
-If you have never listened to the musical "The Garden" you might be able to repent and you should listen to it immediately so that you can be saved.
-This email is very long and my hands are tired.

So yep! There you go! Good luck to the brave souls who read this whole thing. I hope my word throw up is good!

oh, also it snowed. It's funny to watch people who haven't seen snow before see it for the first time. Like lol.

I love you all!

Something about socks!
To all of you who just skipped this. You have disappointed me greatly. As any good Smedry knows, you can't just skip to the end without there being severe punishment.

Good luck.

but also, yes these emails are long. I don't expect people to read them. They make me happy to write, so I hope people don't feel obligated. Cause these are more for me than for any of y'all. Just cause I think that I'm more important than y'all. :)))))

So today in something about socks I wanted to share an impression that the spirit gave me during one of my devotionals. They were talking about how David didn't need a sword to kill Goliath. He only needed a stone. The spirit then told me "The Lord has given me things, I don't need a sword if I have been given stones."

I loved that so much! It brought me so much peace and joy. While I may not have a cool flashy sword, I have been given a stone. And that will be the best thing for me to use to be the best instrument in Gods had that I can be :)

2 Nephi 4. That's this weeks scripture assignment. Have fun!

Lol

The Church's plastic spoon fund at work. Way to go Elder Schade!

Legit everyone thinks that they are a chiropractor. Some kids are just stupid.

Pranks may not be allowed. But that didn't stop the Spanish elders from sticking all of the sofas in our room!

Last time seeing Lei Jie Mei maybe :(

It snowed and the BYU students wrote us a message! It was so cool!

Elder Uchtdorf's talk in a picture!

WEEK 6 MTC: If you give a missionary a cookie... He will want a hair to go with it..... Apparently?

WELL ALLLLLOOOOOHHHAAAAA

So guess who got visited by Elder Cook?

It's a pretty easy answer.... It was me! Well all the missionaries here at the MTC, but still me!

So it was so cool to get a visit from an apostle and he said some really cool things! The spirit that he brought just by walking into the room was so cool! One of the things that he showed us that was so cool was pages from the original printers manuscript of the Book of Mormon. They Also showed us a page form the first written english parts of the Book of Mormon. Like the OG script. It was so cool!

I love the Book of Mormon so much. I finished Alma yesterday and it is just so amazing. I invite everyone to read it every day :) It will bless your life.

On Thursday I auditioned my song "Nearer to Kolob". I'll put a link to it if people want to listen to it. I've been working on it now for about 3 weeks and I'm way happy with it. But I auditioned it and they were like, "Wow, that was amazing, but it gets to loud for our purposes so this probably won't work"

So that was a little sad.

However that afternoon I got an email that said that they would hold my song to be played in about two weeks, so now I'm just confused. Hopefully it works out though! I would love for it to!

Our Saturday TRC was a lot of fun! We taught about personal revelation and it was so cool to be able to talk to these people about it. Our last guy was not very engaged in our lesson until I bore my testimony. As I started to bear my testimony about prayer, scriptures, and revelation, you could tell that he got engaged. The spirit was there speaking the truth of my words to him. I'm so happy that I can have God's help in all I do. For without him I am nothing.

Sundays are amazing here. Like so so good. Favorite day of the week. The spirit is just so strong and I learn so many things. Thats real specific I know. But it is true :)

I love it here so much. It will be sad to leave, but honestly I'm raring to go! It will be fun to get out there and teach real people and help them!

But

We actually teach two non-members this week. We in the BIG leagues now! Now more fake people pretending, these are actual people. It is kinda terrifying. But super exciting at the same time!

Thats my week basically. know that I love you all! Thank you for everything that you do for me :)

Love,
Elder Baird

WEEK 5 MTC: So wow... Yah this happened...... (not clickbait btw)

Hello all of my super fans and pepoPrime Subscribers! (again only Roman gets that (Yall need to get educated (like really)))

So Tuesday the building got caught on fire. Kind of. Not really. BUT, there was a fire drill I think? All I know is that the fire alarms went off, and my teacher was like "GRAB YOUR BOOK OF MORMONS AND LESSS GOOO!"

So I brought my Book of Mormon and left the rest of my stuff to burn.
As a side note, the MTC has real nice sounding fire alarms.

On Wednesday I was teaching again and may have said something a little new... again...

So I was trying to say we all sin, the word for sin is Zui, so to say that we sin, saying that we have done it you say Zui le, le means 'ed' like sinned. But in Chinese if you say Zui le, that means intoxicated....

So in short I called my investigator intoxicated, proceeded to call myself intoxicated, and then my companion... and then everyone in the world...... So yah...... :)))))

BUT, I have met the people of newness! So turns out Raelynn Sharp is here! She got here on Wednesday and seeing her was the greatest! (She was on ballroom) I didn't think I was going to see her for another 2 years, but surprise!!! That made my day.

As well, turns out I have not one, but two second cousins here. There are two other Elder Bairds here and we were like "wow we have the same name! Yay polygamy and family things" And then later one of them came up to me and said that his dad and y dad were cousins. He's from the dentist Baird cousin for those who know them. And the other one is his cousin. So yah, my family is here. And we didn't even know. But they way cool. So now I know some second cousins on my dads side. Who knew they even existed! *shrug*

On Thursday I finished writing a song that I'm auditioning on this Thursday. Hopefully that goes well! Cause I really want to play again.

AND THEN CAME THURSDAY!

My month-aversary! As well we got to have class while being observed by African Kings!!

At least that's what our teacher thought, turns out that they were members of a Native American tribe called the zhuni. They are trying to preserve their language through an immersion school. So they came to the MTC to observe a class on how the teachers teach here, because they recognize how quickly the missionaries learn. And our class was the one they observed which was cool!

On Saturday we had an AMAZING TRC. This is where we teach a member a lesson. We taught faith in Jesus Christ, and the spirit just testified so strongly through it. Our teacher was there for it and she said that we did amazing! That was such a great confidence booster. But this week we start non-member TRC's which just sound terrifying.........

This week has kind of just been about faith. It has been amazing. My favorite chapter in the Book of Mormon is Alma 32. 10/10 would recommend.

What else happened this week.....

Well I learned you don't need to shove your earplugs in all the way to your brain for them to work. That was really nice to figure out XD

Well, I think that that is it for this week. Pictures will come sometime else.

Love you all!

This weeks something about socks section:

Well, I'm not really sure what to talk about in this this week. I'm still not exactly sure what this section is about.
But
Things are going a lot better with my companion. I've graduated to different problems which is good. Instead of having problems loving him, now I have issues trying to figure out how to help him. So that is good.
I know that the Lord is helping me through all of this and I am so grateful for that.

As well I'm getting better at learning Chinese which is a blessing for sure.

As well "Lead Kindly Light" by Vocal Point is amazing. We are singing the Tab CATS version in choir and I love it!

再见!

Why wear my glasses when I can wear someone else's?

Me and my second cousins. The one on the left is Saxon Jone's companion. And the middle is also speaking Mandarin. The one on the right is the hottest guy ever. Beware when he gets home all you ladies out there. I heard that he's quite the catch.

I'm not even in Taiwan yet and the sign English is bad

ummm... Again with the messed up signs.... Those look like bowls to me *shrug*
The flashcards on the left are ones that I have memorized... It's crazy.

We got a weird district

We got a normal district

WEEK 4 MTC: My mom is low key trying to kill me

Hello one and all! I'm so glad that I could get you to read my random spattering of words for the week! I want to take this opportunity to talk about something that really hit me during conference. It was during Elder Ballard's talk, which mind you was the best talk this conference, but he talked about letting people know you love them while you still can.

So this is me telling all of you that I love you. Each of you. And I am so grateful for all of the love, support, prayers, and packages that have been sent my way. It truly does mean so much more than you will ever know.

But enough about you guys. I know what you guys are all here for.

ME!

So this week. Every single day is basically the same here in the MTC until they are not. Like you have classes and study and it all is basically the same until something different happens. So I'm just going to talk about those different things. I don't want you to get to bored, and I need to make sure that you read all of my email, so I will keep it interesting.

So first things first lets talk about all the people I've met/re-met. Some of you may know these people, but they are all friends of mine.

So I saw Nathan Edgel on Monday, I had no clue he was here and so that was really cool! We were friends a couple years ago till he moved out of my ward.

As well some people from Renaissance Academy that I thought I wouldn't see again are here as well. Namely, Jarom Hyde is here, and he has changed a lot. Joey Garrison, who danced on BYU's youth team and who danced with me in elementary school. And one of my good friends Mason Plaisted, who moved to Texas in the 6th grade and who I thought I would never see again. Turns out he lives on the same floor as me, has for 3 weeks, and we just barely re-met.

It was a tender mercy to these old friends of mine. That may sound weird, but it really was. We got to talk about the past, and then we all kind of just realized that we are all here for the same reason, and that is amazing.

On Wednesday we got to host the new missionaries. Which basically means that as the parents drop their kids off, I got to pick them up! It was a lot of thing.

That evening we got to teach my teacher again. (The same one that I told him that Jesus was a mass murder) and we asked him how his scripture reading was going. To which he responded, good but I have a question. He then asked why Nephi killed a guy because he thought that killing was against our religion. That was not easy to explain in Chinese..... But we got our point across and so that worked out!

Then I got a haircut........................................................ -_-
it's short and difficult to style. but whatever. I'm here for the lord. yah. so. cool. -___-

THEN THERE WAS CONFERENCE

I really don't even know what to say other than wow. Amazing. I could spend the next hour writing about my insights from conference. But then I want everyone to get their own insights. So my thoughts on conference will be limited to this.

I went in to conference with questions. By the end of the first 3 sessions most weren't answered. And so patience is a virtue and the 4th session answered them all. I felt the spirit and I know that we have a prophet of God on this earth today. I wish I had time to say more, but that really isn't feasible.

So I leave this invitation. I invited all of you. And yes I mean all of you. Member or not. I invite you to listen to conference. Because whether or not you believe that these men are called of God, the words that they speak will give you peace and direction in your life. I can guarantee that for anyone. If you listen with an open heart you will hear what you need in your life.

So I invite all of you to listen to it.

As well I invite everyone to start doing "Come Follow Me" with purpose. I wish this was something that I could have done better before I left, so for those of you that still have your family with you, I invite you to take time with them to learn about Christ through this inspired program.

Well that brings me to the piano.

I had the amazing opportunity to play my "Missionary Medley" piece for all 2000 missionaries here at the MTC. I can say that I have never played for that many people before. And I was slightly terrified.

My leg was spasming on the pedal basically the whole time. And while I did make mistakes, I was able to bring the spirit. Something that many people have told me. So I did what I was supposed to and I really think that it went well!

I'm currently writing another song right now that I will hopefully be able to play sometime soon. (I don't get a lot of time to practice around here). But Music can bring the spirit. And I was able to accomplish that which is something I am grateful for.

And now what you have all been waiting for!

Why is my mother trying to kill me?

Well she sent me some fruit snacks and ONE OF THEM WAS POISONED! I swear it had cyanide powder in it or something like that. The picture will hopefully be coming soon. You can see for yourself my own mothers attempt on my life. Luckily she did not do a good job and it was quite obvious that this fruit snack that was supposed to be smiling at me, was filled with a dangerous powdery substance.

Well all of by semi-permissibly-membraned friends, this concludes my email for the week. Pictures will come soon. They are hard to send while you're here. But they will come! Never fear!

As a reminder, if you respond to me on Mondays I can respond until 6 o'clock. So if anyone wants to engage in conversation then feel free!

Again I love you all and look forward to seeing all of your care package.... I mean faces again!

Love,
Elder Baird

Today something about socks:

two things actually.....

One, I talked with my companion and things are going sooooo much better! Charity from God is a real thing. It really is. During conference I had the amazing opportunity to be filled with love for my companion which was amazing.

Second, I don't know how to study Chinese. I've never really studied for anything before. And so I'm learning how to study Chinese. And it is being difficult. But I know that through the Lords power, and advice from people learning languages. Or who have. But yep. It is very difficult. But I will make it through I know!

-----------

Here is a link to my piano performance. The audio and video quality suck because this phone sucks. But I know that some people may want it so here it is. This was the worst time I've played it. But it was fun to be on the TV.

As well it was being projected on two massive projectors so thats cool.
